A Word to Fellow Writers

“Work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results.” James Allen

I’ve just been reading through the notes on marketing that were provided at the Writer’s Fair in Brisbane last month. My friend Lisa Taylor has had years of experience in marketing and has also just had her first book Motive Games published. (Check it out – a fast-paced murder mystery with a message of hope!) Anyway, I was encouraged by the above quote. I for one, don’t want to be dragged into the exhausting, never-ending arena of relentlessly trying to promote my own work. Yes, as writers we must believe in what we are writing and in our message, and we should be spreading the word, but at the same time we must endevour to keep ourselves free from the world’s expectations. Let’s not get caught up in the sticky web of goals such as  ‘making lots of money’ or ‘becoming famous’. Let’s not become frazzled, dissatisfied or driven. Instead, let’s continue to work joyfully at the task that God has made us passionate about, all the while trusting him to open the necessary doors. And may our writing bless and encourage our readers, however few or many they be.

One response to “A Word to Fellow Writers”:

  1. Hi Rosie! I am so looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. I am in the process of writing my first book – something God planted in my heart and head more than three years ago! I love what you wrote to fellow writers – joyfully staying passionate about this gift from God, trusting Him to do with it what HE WANTS TO!! I may be the only person on this earth who ever reads my book one day, but then I was obedient in doing what He wanted me to. I know He will open the right doors at the right time!
I love your website… we speak the same language… 🙂
