I can hardly believe it but today I finally finished writing Book Three of The Barn Chronicles series!! I began it on Friday, August 20th 2010. I fully expected it to be done earlier than this but somehow life kept butting in (!) and the weeks and months have dragged on. Still, it’s done. 🙂 It’s going to be called Where the Cricket Sings. I had a lot of great suggestions from different young readers – Where Cows Moo; Where Children Laugh; Where Horses Gallop to name but a few. Thanks for those ideas, kids – I really appreciate them. Maybe for a future book??
I got the idea for the title from a poem (The Lake Isle of Innisfree) by William Butler Yates:
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
And we had a certain incident involving a cricket (you’ll have to read about it) that clinched it for me. 🙂
So, now the big job is to draw all the pictures – I have already done about forty, so am halfway there. And of course there’s the proof reading and editing…still, it’s exciting to be at this stage. So for all of you who have emailed me asking when the book will be out, I can at last say that we’re well on the way. Given the long drawn out process of production etc, we’ve missed a Christmas release for sure, but it should be earlyish in the New Year. I hope you’re all as excited as I am!?! Yippee!
