Today I went to the funeral of Dalu Mncube, the senior lion handler at the Zion Wildlife Gardens here in Whangarei. Last week on Wednesday he was tragically mauled by a white tiger and died. It was such a shock to all of us. Just last month Dalu came and spoke at the book launch for my book Where Lions Roar at Night.Everyone loved him. He had a beautiful big smile and a warm, caring personality.
He was looking forward to taking our family on a special tour of the Lion Park so he could introduce us to “his boys”. We were due to go on the day of his death but had postponed it to the next day due to visitors coming.
The funeral was an uplifting time, full of hope. But Dalu will be sadly missed.
