Today my darling Kate turns 21!! I can hardly believe it. I remember well the joy of getting her first beautiful smiles.
I sat on my bed this morning reading through the diary I’ve kept for her since she was a baby, laughing at the funny things she’s said and crying at some of the tender moments. eg: when I came home from hospital after losing a baby and Kate stroked my head and said, “Oh Mummy. Sometimes things like this happen to people, you know.” The wisdom of a four-year-old. 🙂
And now she is about to finish her music degree and head off to Cambodia in February for six months. I feel like Tevye and Golda in Fiddler on the Roof as they sing Sunrise Sunset at their daughter’s wedding…
Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play? I don’t remember growing older When did they?
When did she get to be a beauty? When did he grow to be so tall? Wasn’t it yesterday When they were small?
Sunrise, sunset Sunrise, sunset Swiftly flow the days Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers Blossoming even as we gaze
Sunrise, sunset Sunrise, sunset Swiftly fly the years One season following another Laden with happiness and tears
Praise the Lord for the wonderful gift of children and family!
